I agree with the advice to use RateMyProfessors. Very often, what could have been a very interesting class can be ruined by having a professor who’s not a very good teacher.

I think one great key is discovering what your personal strong suit is. For example, I have discovered that of all mental activities, memorization is the easiest for me (as opposed to, say, creative writing or logical thinking). So whenever I want to take an easy elective, I take a class that is almost pure memorization, such as biology 101 or art history.

You are much better off asking for students you know to recommend instructors than to rely on anonymous postings on any website.

Wow, I never knew there was actually a site to rate professors. But now that I think of it IS a good idea. I remember running across some rate-my-teacher sites before in high school (my teachers never got very good ratings >.<)

Totally agreed on ratemyprofessor. I’ve forgotten to do that a couple of times before taking classes. Wound up with a horrid professor, only to check the site later and see I could have saved myself a lot of headaches.
